STATEMENT

SPACE TRAPS is a video presentation of one of Olga Ast's main conceptual works. It is an outlet of the artistic action "Field of Vision" which consists of the installations "Space TRAP-line", "A Dispersion of Meanings" and "Museum Space Trap", among others. The presented version of the installation was filmed by Igor Nurgaliev in New York City.

Since 1980s, Ast has been working with the conception of Space as an artistic medium. Utilizing a range of metallic, transparent and reflective materials, ready-made objects and words as substances with semiotic baggage, her work situates itself at the intersection of artistic, linguistic and scientific discourse, providing an inlet toward dialogue between these divergent disciplines. Specifically, Olga Ast attempts to visually and theoretically address one of the main questions that has significantly arisen in both contexts – that of the Structure of Space.
